5 Brick Course Telescopic Adjustable Underfloor Cavity Vent
The Manthorpe 5" Core Drill Vent is designed for use when ventilating a room with a gas appliance, but can also be used for general through wall ventilation. The vent can easily be fitted in both refurbishment and new build situations with the use of a 5" (127mm) diameter core drill. The kit includes a cowl vent for exterior use, a louvre grille for inside, a 350mm length of pipe duct and an optional anti-draught baffle. This baffle reduces the airflow and also the feel of a draught through the vent. Without the use of the anti-draught baffle, the free area of the vent is 100cm², enough to supply an appliance with a rated input of 27kW or 92,000 Btu/h (in accordance with BS5440 Pt.2:2000). With the anti-draught baffle installed, the effective free area of the vent is reduced to 70cm² (BRE tested) providing enough ventilation for an appliance with an input rating of 21kW or 71,500 Btu/h. The external cowl minimises uncomfortable draughts, reduces noise and light from outside the property and acts as a barrier against wind driven rain while the louvre fits on the internal wall and, similarly helps to reduce draughts, noise and light penetration.

If further ventilation is required, install one lap vent into every rafter space at low level or into lap joints at higher level. The lap vents should be fitted to both sides of the roof space in order to provide cross-flow ventilation. How to install:1. Ensure the lap vent is orientated with clips facing inwards to the roof space and the flat surface to roof.2. Insert the pointed edge of the lap vent into the gap between membrane/underlay overlap and then push flat towards roof line.3. Push the lap vent down inside the joint ensuring the clips hook onto the outer face.4. As modern building practices have greatly improved the quality of new homes in the UK, some have actually suffered from the advances in building regulation. Bird species such as swifts have occupied the cracks and crevices in our buildings for thousands of years, but the improved standard and style of modern construction has put their survival in our towns and cities at risk. These popular birds come to the UK for three months during the summer to raise their young and can be seen on warm evenings giving spectacular displays. They eat large quantities of insect pests and spiders. They prefer nesting in small groups but the population has been dwindling for many years as suitable nest sites have become scarcer. The Manthorpe Swift Brick has been developed in conjunction with major house builders and conservation experts to provide a safe, spacious and habitable area to allow swifts to nest within the well built construction of modern houses.
