What is a Drainage Gully?

A drainage gully connects above-ground water sources (like roofs, patios, and driveways) to the underground drainage system. Its trap holds water, creating a barrier against foul smells and gases. There are two main types:

• P-Trap Gully: This type has a curved section that traps water to prevent odours. P-trap gullies come with 45° or 90° outlets and cannot be cleaned with a drain rod if blocked.
• Bottle Gully: Featuring a removable central chamber, bottle gullies are easier to clean and maintain. They are roddable, allowing for quick and efficient clearing of blockages.

All drainage gullies are topped with a grate to catch debris, making them easy to maintain and clean.

What is a Drainage Hopper?

The drainage hopper, the top part of the gully, funnels water from above into the gully trap. Typically, hoppers include a grate that comes in square, rectangular, or round shapes to match your paving and style. Its purpose is to ensure that only water and small particles enter the drainage gully, preventing blockages and maintaining efficient water flow.
